Hiawatha Highlands is pleased to offer learn-to-ski lessons for adults and families/groups.
Instructors are CANSI (Canadian Association of Nordic Ski Instructors) certified.
Learn the basics of the traditional (classic) cross country style and skate skiing, so you can enjoy the trails and being active in the winter. For skiers from beginner to intermediate level. For those who want to gain more confidence on the trails. For those who want to improve their skiing skills.
For adults (18 yrs & over) and children (5 yrs & over)
(Children under 15 yrs must be accompanied by an adult)
Weekdays and weekends - We will work with you and your schedule! Times can be available in the morning, afternoon and evenings.
Individual: $38.59 + tax - private lesson, 1 hour, pass and rent not included or $60.64 + tax with pass and rent
Groups of 2: $27.56 + tax - per person, 1 hour, pass and rent not included or $49.61 + tax per person with pass and rent included
Groups 3 or more: $22.05+ tax - per person, 1 hour, pass and rent not included) or $44.10 + tax per person with pass and rent included
Children 12 & under: $16.54 + tax - Must book lesson with adult. - 1 hour, no pass or rent or $33.08 + tax to include pass and rent
3 lesson progressive package for children 12 & under: $38.59 + tax - 1 hour each lesson. Pass and rent not included or $82.69 + tax to include pass and rent.
3 lesson progressive package for individuals: $99.23 + tax - 1 hour each lesson. Pass and rent not included or $173.65 + tax to include pass and rent.

Please arrive with enough time to check in at the Kincentre and be ready to start your lesson on time. If you need a trail pass or ski equipment, please do that prior to the start time of your lesson. (If you already have a current trail pass and/or your own equipment, there is no further discount for the lesson)
- Pre-registration is required to ensure availability
- A $20 deposit per student will be charged at time of booking to confirm lessons
- Final payment will be taken day of lesson
Cancellation Policy:
Prior to 24 hours: Refund or reschedule
Less than 24 hours: Reschedule less $10 deposit
Late arrival or no show: No refund.

Jill Esposito
Jill has been skiing for 35 years. She started with the Jackrabbit program when she was 5 years old and continued with the program until high school. She has her Canadian Association of Nordic Ski Instructors (CANSI) certificate. This will be Jill's second year giving private lessons at Hiawatha and her 5th year as a Jackrabbit coach. Jill enjoys teaching people of all ages and abilities. During the winter months she can 100% be found on her skis on the cross-country ski trails. John Santana
John started as an alpine skier and at 25 years old switched over to cross country. John has his Canadian Association of Nordic Ski Instructors (CANSI) certificate and has been coaching in the Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Club’s Jackrabbit program for the last 20 years. Be prepared for a lesson where you will not only learn either classic or skate technique, but you will also be immersed in his passion for both cross country skiing and the outdoors.

Wayne Westman
Wayne has been cross country skiing for over 45yrs as a recreational and competitive skier. As a X Country Level 1 Coach he has provided many hours of instruction in Classic & Skating technique for members of Sault Ste Marie’s skiing community.

Mike Kornell
Mike has been xc skiing for 55+ years, and is providing instruction in both classic and skate technique. He regularly skis more than 1000km each season, and likes to race in xc ski loppets in far away places. Mike can also provide guidance on ski gear selection, and ski waxing.

Rob MacDougall
Rob has been a Nordic skier for over 45 years and spent fifteen years as a jackrabbit coach. He enjoys working with beginner skiers. He skis at Hiawatha most days and if not at Hiawatha Highland then he is likely away skiing in a in distant location doing a Loppet with his friend Mike.
