Hiawatha Highlands
Hiawatha Highlands is a premier destination for Nordic skiing, snowshoeing and fat biking. Located in Sault Ste. Marie, ON, at the centre of the Great Lakes, we generally experience cool, snowy winters with lots of lake effect snow. While we can never predict the weather, we are known for great conditions over a longer season compared to many other cross-country skiing facilities in Ontario.
Hiawatha Highlands manages over 50km of Nordic skiing trails, 20km of snowshoe trails and 14km of fat biking trails/cross-country ski trails are groomed for both classic and skate skiing. All abilities are welcome and there are trails suitable for beginners as well as intermediate and advanced routes.
Trails at Hiawatha Highlands span over three different Land-use Agreements, requiring careful coordination with our land partners.
Hiawatha Highlands was incorporated as the business operation of the Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Club (SFNSC) in 2006, but the ski area and the club have been pillars of the Sault Ste. Marie skiing community since 1953. The Club continues to promote a life-long love of Cross-country skiing through programming, hosting provincial and national races and a commitment to club community. Learn more about SFNSC.

The Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Club, operator of Hiawatha Highlands, is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. The Board of Directors oversee all club activities and Hiawatha Highlands business activities, following the guidelines of the Strategic Plan.
