Know Before You Go

Know Before You Go

• You must have a valid trail pass (season or day) to use the trails at Hiawatha Highlands.

• Fat Biking and Snowshoeing trail access is included in all Ski passes.

• Protect the Classic Ski Track! Do not skate ski, snow plough, herringbone, fat bike, or snowshoe over classic tracks. If you fall, move to the middle of the trail to get up.

• Signal to other skiers when you are passing. Pass on the left and give plenty of space.

• Do not stop in the middle of the trail. Step to the side.

• Only bike when snow is packed and trails are hard. Biking on soft snow is not only difficult, but damages trails.

• No walking on trails from November to April.

• Dogs are prohibited.

• Fat biker and snowshoers must yield to skiers when crossing trails, and stay vigilant for other trail users.

Cross-country Skiing

Discover more than 50 km of professionally groomed cross-country ski trails winding through the breathtaking winter landscape of Hiawatha Highlands. With trails groomed for both classic and skate skiing, three distinct trail systems offer something for every skier, from gentle beginner terrain to rolling hills, technical climbs and unforgettable backcountry adventures.

Build your confidence on the welcoming Pinder Trail System, challenge yourself on the rolling terrain of Red Pine, explore the hills, forests and frozen waterfalls of Crystal Creek, or ski with your four-legged companion through the unique landscape of Mabel Lake.

Whether you're heading out for your first ski, chasing a great workout or simply looking to lose yourself in a quiet snow-covered forest, Hiawatha Highlands is the perfect place to experience winter on skis.

Ski, boot, and pole rentals are available in the Kinsmen Centre.

Snowshoeing

If you can walk, you can snowshoe! Snowshoeing is a great way to enjoy the outdoors in winter, and is easily accessible to people of all ages and abilities.

Hiawatha Highlands features 10km+ of snowshoe trails that traverse the Crystal Creek and Pinder Trail systems. Weave your way through beautiful snow-laden forests, tramp across pretty waterways and breathe in the fresh northern air.

Snowshoe rentals are available in the Kinsmen Centre.

Fat Biking

A growing trend among cyclists, Fat Biking lets you ride all season because of large (usually 4”+) tires with low air pressure (5-10 PSI) that allow your bike to float over the snow. Fat Biking is accessible and, like all cycling, easy on joints. It’s a great way to enjoy the outdoors over winter.

Hiawatha Highlands maintains 20km+ of Fat Biking trails on the Crystal Creek and Mabel Lake systems.

We also provide a limited number of fat bikes for rent, so you can try this great sport!
