Volunteer
If you love the outdoors, winter activities and meeting great people, then you’ll find volunteering with Hiawatha Highlands rewarding! We are a non-profit and rely on volunteers to support events and our operation, so that we can keep our activities affordable. Volunteer opportunities include:
Snow School - We seek volunteers who can help instruct or support Lead Instructors in the delivery of our Snow School programming for elementary students. Volunteers should have some experience snowshoeing and/or cross-country skiing.
Events - Hiawatha Highlands and the Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Club hold many events throughout the year including races, special events, BBQs and more. Volunteer duties may include assisting with setup, info booths, food service, parking management and tear-down/clean up. At races, other duties include volunteer management, timing and planning.
Trail Greeter - To ensure everyone is accessing the trails fairly, we run random checks for valid trail passes. The Trail Greeter welcomes trail users and requests proof of trail pass.
Board of Directors - The Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Club, operator of Hiawatha Highlands, is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. We seek board members with expertise in finance, events, operations, facilities, legal and marketing.

Please note that access to one’s own mode of reliable transportation is an employment requirement as there is no public transportation to Hiawatha Highlands.
Donate
As a non-profit, Hiawatha Highlands is committed to offering its services as economically as possible. But, it costs a lot to maintain the trails - staffing, gas, really expensive equipment like our Piston Bully.
Donations help support events, SFNSC programming, including high-performance athlete development, senior's program and race infrastructure. When you donate, you’re helping young athletes grow, giving para-athletes the opportunity to participate and ensuring that Hiawatha remains sustainable and accessible for generations to come.
