Just an FYI…We have had sightings today of the Barred Owl on the 2k trail again this year. Please refrain from hats with pom poms or tassels and ponytails. The winging action of these items is a huge attractant to the owl.

Cross Country Ski Trail Groomer Operator

Hiawatha Highlands is looking to hire and train a part-time Cross Country Ski Trail Groomer Operator. The successful candidate will be responsible for day-to-day grooming and snow management of Hiawatha Highlands’ cross country ski trail network. The safe and careful operation of a modern fleet of Snow Cat, Can Am Side by Side, as well as snowmobile grooming equipment is required. This is a seasonal role and requires the flexibility to work weekends and nights.

The candidate would be reporting to the Manager of Hiawatha Highlands, as well as working with other Groomer Operators.

The desired candidate will possess:

Prior experience operating heavy equipment

  • Ability to carry out routine maintenance on both the Snow Cat and snow machines
  • Ability to maintain accounts for equipment and gas
  • Ability to monitor and document fuel consumption and to order fuel
  • Construction skills eg. installing and removing trails signage
  • Ability to take photos and update website of trail conditions
  • Ability to multi-task and follow direction
  • Attention to safe and responsible manner
  • Valid Driver’s License

The Pinder system is complete as of 10:00am.  All of the trails will be groomed today; as time permits.  There is lots of new snow on the trails.. Stay tuned for updates.

The Kinsmen 2km loop is complete as of 11:35am.

The Red Pine system has been groomed — 1:30pm.

Grooming of the Crystal Creek system will commence as of 1:45pm.

9:00 AM – 2k and the Pinder system were groomed this morning.

12:00 PM – Red Pine is done…Enjoy !!!

12:45 pm – Fueling up and heading into the Crystal

2:00 update…it snowed out there…and accumulation has happened, grooming on the trails will happen again tomorrow.

3:00 pm – Crystal system is completed

The Crystal, Kinsmen, Pinder and Red Pine systems were all groomed yesterday.

*Reminder that the Pinder System is closed today for general use due to the Loppet from 6 am to 2 pm.

Hiawatha extension is closed due to washouts caused by the warm weather.
